Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Audiences can expect learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
